Harnessing the Autistic Imagination to Create Novel Psychoeducational Approaches! Autistic Clinicians Perform as Little Mermaid Characters to Empower Their Community

Moderator: Sujata Patel, MD

Objectives:

  • Participants will develop a deeper understanding of how the autistic internal experience of the world is different, including alexithymia, interoceptive differences, sensory differences, special interests, communication differences and stimming.
  • Audience members will leave with specific strategies for reducing shame/stigma and cultivating self-compassion and self-acceptance in both autistic patients and their loved ones.
  • Participants will learn how to enhance their autistic clients’ connection to the neurodiversity affirming community and challenge internalized ableism.
  • Participants will be able to identify three examples of intersectional marginalization within the autistic community.

 

Stacy Greeter, MD, Child/Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist, Stacy Greeter, MD, PLLC

Stacy Greeter, MD (she/her) is double board certified in both child/adolescent and adult psychiatry and owns a group psychiatric practice in Sarasota, FL. She speaks from both her lived experience as an autistic, ADHD, and OCD individual and as a clinician. Dr. Greeter graduated Summa Cum Laude from Duke University and went on to University of North Carolina School of Medicine on a full scholarship. Dr. Greeter completed her residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and continued there to complete her subspecialty fellowship in child/adolescent psychiatry. She believes in cross-pollination of knowledge between disciplines, creating space for safe candid conversations on controversial mental health issues, and runs a multi-disciplinary mental health professionals book club and co-hosts the podcast “Chronically Real and Clinically Relevant.” Dr. Greeter teaches at Lake Erie College of Medicine and Florida State University, is on the board of directors for Autism Career Pathways and NAMI-Sarasota/Manatee County, and on the leadership team of Autistic Doctors International. Dr. Greeter uses metaphors from fantasy universes such as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and The Little Mermaid to make psychiatric concepts accessible and engaging through her educational Psychiatry Bootcamp series.

 

Alicia H. Cho, DO, Child/Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist, Duet Psychiatry, LLC

Alicia H. Cho, D.O. is a board-certified adult psychiatrist who completed the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in June 2024. She draws from her lived experience as an autistic and ADHD Korean-American woman as well as her clinical expertise, passionately supporting neurodivergent youth transitioning to adulthood. Dr. Cho studied classical acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and graduated from Smith College with a major in Theatre. A classically trained singer, she has performed in musical theatre, operas, and plays. She earned her medical degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCOM) and completed adult psychiatry training at the HealthONE Psychiatry Residency at The Medical Center of Aurora in Colorado. In her free time, Dr. Cho enjoys hiking, exploring the foodie scene, going on adventures with her rescue dog, and singing karaoke. With her interest in the performing arts, Dr. Cho aims to de-stigmatize mental health conditions in the media.

 

Jessica Hogan, PsyD, Founder, Neuron & Rose Psychological Services, Inc

Dr. Jessica Hogan is a licensed clinical psychologist (Minnesota and California) and the founder of Neuron & Rose Psychology, a neurodiversity-affirming group practice. She leads a training program for doctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows focused on neuroaffirming psychological assessment. With over a decade of experience specializing in autism and ADHD evaluations, Dr. Hogan also provides individual and group consultation to clinicians through her consulting company, The Divergent Clinician. Her professional interests include the development of affirming assessment models, clinician training, and advocacy for neurodivergent practitioners. Outside of her clinical work, she enjoys true crime, literary fiction, and circus arts.

 

Rainn Stone, LICSW, TTGC (they/them), Owner and Therapist, Rainny Days Counseling Owner and Therapist

Rainn Stone, LICSW (Rainny Days Counseling) is an AuDHD PDAer clinical social worker. They speak from both their clinical experience providing neurodivergent-affirming psychotherapy and group therapy to neurodivergent patients and their lived experience as a queer nonbinary autistic and ADHD individual. They specialize in neurodiversity affirming care across the lifespan, specifically with children and teens and the intersection of the LGBTQIA+ community and neurodivergence. Rainn has presented in 2022 at Charlie Health on various neurodiversity-affirming topics, 2025 at Megacon on autism, 2024 at Dragoncon on Autism, Neuron and Rose Psychology on Neurodivergent Affirming Suicide Intervention and Neurodivergent and LGBT affirming care, and at Crisis Services of North Alabama on Neurodivergent and trauma informed care, and at Samaritan Counseling Center on autism and Religious Trauma and Deconstruction
