Participatory Research to Develop Accessible Measures of the Most Important Adult Outcomes for the Autistic Community

Christina Nicolaidis, MD, MPH, Professor, Portland State University and Oregon Health & Science University, Co-Director, Academic Autism Spectrum Partnership in Research and Education

Christina Nicolaidis, MD, MPH is a Professor in the School of Social Work at Portland State University (PSU) and in the Department of Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). As a neurodivergent (ADHDer) general internal medicine physician and health services researcher, Dr. Nicolaidis uses participatory research to improve health and healthcare. The majority of her current research projects focus on neurodiversity. She is the co-founder and co-director of the Academic Autism Spectrum Partnership in Research and Education (AASPIRE), a long-standing academic-community partnership that uses community-based participatory research (CBPR) to address the priorities of autistic adults. She also serves as the founding Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed journal, Autism in Adulthood, teaches research methods at PSU, teaches and practices internal medicine at OHSU, and mentors dozens of students, trainees, and faculty members locally and around the world.
