This course will empower teachers, mental health service providers, and other healthcare professionals to work more effectively with neurodivergent individuals by adapting strengths-based and culturally equitable approaches in various settings. This course is tailored for providers who serve individuals with Chinese cultural background.

Dr. Lawrence Fung is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. He is the director of the Stanford Neurodiversity Project, director of the Neurodiversity Clinic, and principal investigator at the Fung Lab. His work, which focuses on autism and neurodiversity, traverses from multi-modal neuroimaging studies to a new conceptualization of neurodiversity and its application to clinical, educational, and employment settings. His lab advances the understanding of neural bases of human socio-communicative and cognitive functions by using novel neuroimaging and bioanalytical technologies. Using a community-based participatory research approach, his team devises and implements novel interventions to improve the lives of neurodiverse individuals by maximizing their potential and productivity. His work has been supported by various agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, Autism Speaks, California Department of Developmental Services, California Department of Rehabilitation, and philanthropy. He received his PhD in chemical engineering from Cornell University and his MD from George Washington University. He completed his general psychiatry residency, child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship, and postdoctoral research fellowship at Stanford.

Founding President of Hong Kong Mental Wellness Association
Dr. May Lam is a Psychiatry Specialist, Founder and President of The Hong Kong Mental Wellness Association, Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK), Director of The Alpha Wellbeing Centre. Dr Lam serves as Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Family Medicine at the HKU Faculty of Medicine; Clinical Associate Professor (Honorary) at Department of Psychiatry, CUHK; Adjunct Professor at the Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences, City University of Hong Kong; and Adjunct Associate Professor at Department of Social Work and Social Administrations, HKU. She is also the Course Coordinators for HKU Master of Social Work Youth Mental Health and Neurodiversity Programme and City University Neurodiversity, students with special educational and emotional needs Master degree programmes respectively.
After graduating from the University of New South Wales, Australia, Dr Lam had been Visiting Scholar at Harvard University Medical School Department of Social Medicine in 2003 – 2004, where she was awarded the International Clinical, Research & Training Award, and Research Grant. Over the years, Dr Lam has been passionate in providing mental health professional trainings locally and internationally. She is the Honorary Consultant of the Greater Bay Area Medical Professional Development Association, promoting mental health at local Hong Kong community and at mainland China including the Greater Bay Area. She is leading different community projects, helping youths and adults who are in emotional distress to maximize their greatest potentials. Dr Lam has also been participating in various public affairs related works at the HKSAR Government and at the social welfare sectors.
